Meigs Le Vian Event – July 27th

Are you a Le Vian fan? You don’t want to miss our next event! We are beyond excited to host a special Le Vian event Thursday, July 27th. Le Vian is taking over 75% of our store to display hundreds of one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces with their famous exotic colored stones.

We will be serving a signature drink, the Le Vian Peach Mule (our take on the Moscow Mule!), and we will also have Caprese Kabobs, cucumber finger sandwiches, hand-made chocolate truffles, and fresh chocolate chip cookies for you to enjoy!

One of the things that we love most about Le Vian is that they only use the top 10% of colored stones. This gives their jewelry its signature glamour and stunning design. The most amazing part is they have breathtaking pieces available for everyone’s price point!

Le Vian jewelry is also known for being fashion-forward. Each year we always look forward to their fashion trend forecast and this year they did not disappoint.  We love the Blush (Peach Morganite) and Denim (Deep Sea Blue Topaz) trends! Look at these amazing Peach Morganite rings accented with white and chocolate diamonds.  Does it get any better than this?

Meigs Jewelry is Holding the Baton with Relay for Life

To hear the tragic news that you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer is the most dreaded words that anyone can imagine. Unless you have fought the fight the magnitude of the sickness is incomprehensible. Four years ago my naivety changed when our very dear friend and co-worker, Debbie Miller was diagnosed with breast cancer. The bravery and determination that she exhibited during her battle were more than I could imagine. She fought the fight with such grace and won.  Debbie is now cancer free and we couldn’t be happier for her as she and husband Randall are truly living life and cherishing every moment!

United as our store family we walked, taking a stance against cancer.  We joined forces raising awareness and money with over 5,000 other communities throughout 27 countries.  It brings great pride knowing that our small contribution joined with others around the world is making a difference.

Looking Back: 57 Years of Meigs Jewelry

Screen Shot 2017-05-04 at 1.50.02 PM

To think back over the years is kind of a blur.  1986 seems like yesterday but then again it really doesn’t. Paula and I had just found new love and were graduating from high school, a time of big hair and big glasses!  And look how we rocked them both!

While Paula and I were trudging through college.  Al and Phyllis (aka mom and dad) led the way with our new jewelry endeavor. Together we made the commitment to making Meigs Jewelry the best!

Over the past 29 years, Meigs has moved locations 3 times all in the same block.

Our last move was a doozy!

Hinds Department Store’s building, an icon in Tahlequah sat empty for several years before we decided to make an investment in our downtown and renovated our new home.

The complete renovation was sure worth the sweat and toil! Don’t you agree?

We love our location on the corner of Tahlequah’s historic Cherokee Court House Square, right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The building’s history runs deep as it originally housed the Dawes Commission during the turn of the century.  The Dawes Commission was the office of the US Government that handed out land allotments to the Cherokee people.

Parade Time:  The Plumb family is near and dear to our hearts. We have so enjoyed watching their four beautiful daughters grow up and have families of their own.  This is what we absolutely love.  The relationships from one generation to the next.

Meigs 57th Anniversary Sale! April 28 – May 13

The year 1960 seems like such a long time ago, 57 years to be exact.  It’s hard to believe John F. Kennedy was our President and the average cost to buy a home here in America was just over $2500. Times have certainly changed over the years but the principals of trust and integrity that Meigs Jewelry was built upon 57 years ago are still the foundation that we pride ourselves on today.

The confidence that you, our valued jewelry family, has placed in us over the years is our biggest compliment.  To have the honor of being trusted by families in some instances over three generations is our greatest honor and for that, we are forever grateful.

In celebration, we are inviting all of you to come in and sign up for our $1,000 gift card give-a-way and of course, there is no purchase required.  While you are here we hope that enjoy our signature drink, the infamous “White Diamond.”  Whether it’s the non-alcohol version or the one that has a little something extra, they pair wonderfully well with our fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.  Yum!

Another way to win our grand prize is sharing with us your own personal photos.  We do love nostalgia and what better way to reminisce the years than by sharing a special picture that comes to mind when you think of Meigs Jewelry!  For each picture that you post on Facebook and tag us in, you will receive an additional entry to our special give-a-way drawing.

So stop in to see us and post those pictures to win BIG! We are proud to have been part of this awesome community over the past 57 years and look forward to many more!

Turnpike Troubadours – Habitat for Humanity Benefit Concert – April 15th

Taking it back to their roots on Morgan Street, the Turnpike Troubadours will be performing in Downtown Tahlequah at the Pavilion by Norris Park on April 15th.

We want to give our Meigs family a chance to attend the concert on us, so be watching our Facebook and Instagram for a chance to win a pair of tickets!

Tickets can be purchased at the Tahlequah Chamber of Commerce for $30 or at the event for $40. With only 1,200 tickets available, I wouldn’t wait long! The Chamber of Commerce is expecting to raise $25,000-$35,000 for the Habitat for Humanity – Meigs Jewelry is proud to be involved in such an impactful event for our community.

It started as a far fetched idea from a small group of Northeastern State University students in Dana Eversol’s campaigns class. It didn’t take long for it to materialize into much more than anyone could have imagined. The concert will benefit Habitat for Humanity and all proceeds will go toward the building of homes in the Tahlequah community.

This is the Troubadours first benefit concert to be a part of and they are so excited to help Tahlequah since this city is near and dear to their hearts. You can find bits and pieces of Cherokee County throughout all of Turnpike’s albums making this a special place in their hearts – it’s a part of who they are!

We truly love our home and are so excited for the concert! Turnpike for Tahlequah will be an event to remember with an effect that will be felt long after April 15th. We look forward to seeing you there!

2017 Spring Clean Up!

Saturday was such a beautiful day in Tahlequah and to see the hustle and bustle throughout town truly warms our hearts. Meigs Jewelry is so proud to be part of our community, one that cares and gladly volunteers for a cause. Between the “Hero Dash” raising money for child welfare, NSU’s Big Event sending out hundreds of volunteers into the private sectors of our community, and “My Tahlequah’s” cleanup, it was a BUSY day!!!

This year, we had 15 Meigs Jewelry volunteers participating in My Tahlequah’s 3rd Annual Spring Clean Up. Part of our team gave the iron work and lamp posts around the Chamber building a shiny new coat of black paint.

Others painted the iron railings on Delaware from Water Street to Muskogee Ave. In addition, we freshened our bump out and planted new trees on the south side of our building and picked up trash throughout downtown.

A busy day of work, but we are never too busy to break for lunch. We all enjoyed a delicious “Boom Burger Basket” from the Boomerang! Yum!

The real reward is seeing the sense of community that we live amidst. Tahlequah, we are proud to call you home!

Join us for the 3rd Annual Spring Clean Up with MyTahlequah

It’s time for the 3rd Annual Spring Clean Up with MyTahlequah. This organization was founded to promote the cleanliness and beauty of our special town. Meigs Jewelry is so excited to participate and join hands with the hundreds of volunteers that participate in this event each year.

It is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 1st from 10 am until 2 pm. We will meet at the NSU Activity Center parking lot for a kickoff breakfast and group photo before heading out to our perspective jobs. We love the camaraderie of our quaint town and being a part of making it a more beautiful place for all to enjoy.  If you, your family, or business would like to participate as well, please go to and register.  Together we can make a difference!

The Meigs Jewelry “Clean Team” consists of twelve employees and family members ranging from all ages. You can find us Saturday in our green MyTahlequah t-shirts sprucing up the flowers in our bump-out on Muskogee Avenue, cleaning and weeding the bricks on Delaware Street, and clearing out our back alley.

Philanthropy and community service is part of the Meigs Jewelry culture and we always are looking for ways to give back to our surrounding Tahlequah area as often as we can. Last year the Spring Clean Up had over 650 volunteers, and how impressive would it be to top that number in 2017!

Valentine’s Day Across the World

Love is starting to fill the air as February 14th approaches. Valentine’s Day gifts will begin to be purchased for loved ones.  There is quite a bit of history that proceeds the Valentine’s Day that we know today. Across the world, cultures have their own customs in celebrating this day of love.

Sweden has a more inclusive day called “The Day of All Hearts” that focuses on showing love and admiration to anyone important in your life, not just significant others.  It also marks that season to start cultivating flowers for the spring season.

Japan is thought to have a very backwards tradition compared to our Western customs. Due to a marketing mistranslation in the 1950s, women are the only gift giver on Valentine’s Day. Men receive their gifts from sweethearts on February 14th and reciprocate the gesture one month later on “White Day”.

In Germany the pig is a common symbol of lust and luck. It is very common to gift pig adorned presents as well as oversized iced ginger cookies on “Valentinstag”.

Ireland has an interesting tie to the holiday of love. The main focus of the day is to celebrate and remember Saint Valentine. The Irish see this as a religious holiday, rather than a secular one. The remains of Saint Valentine are rumored to be sheltered at the Carmelite Church in Dublin after Pope George XVI gifted them in 1835. The church is a popular destination during the month of February.

United States

Many people are common with the Valentine’s Day customs of the United States. Frequent gifts are cards, chocolates, flowers, and our favorite – jewelry. The US continues to lead the world in the most money spent on the holiday. It has also become a tradition for schools to celebrate the day of love by having a party and children exchanging cards with one another. It has become more widespread to give gifts to other loved ones in addition to significant others.

We have a special gift for all of the lovebirds in Northeastern Oklahoma. We will be partnering with A Bloom Flowers in Downtown Tahlequah this Valentine’s Day and with your $199 or more purchase you will receive a free half dozen roses! This is for purchases made February 8th through the 14th.

Designer Gifts for the Holidays

Bow Season is in full swing at Meigs Jewelry, so it’s only appropriate that I blog about the new and exciting designers for Christmas that will make the perfect gifts. December 25th will be here before you know it and I want to make sure you know all the wonderful gifts that can be found at Meigs Jewelry.

“I design for the woman who is hip and stylish, but not trendy; someone who is bold, yet still sophisticated,” says Briana – owner of Tat2 Designs. The LA based company uses two-tone overlays of 24 karat gold and antiqued silver accented by earth tone stones that add a hint of sparkle. Tat2 adds a new flair to her existing jewelry and starts at $100

Michael Kors

The brand name you already know continues to wow us with new designs for the holidays. Watches are paired with coordinating jewelry that radiate a sense of timeless chic that is sure to astonish this Bow Season. But we aren’t leaving the guys out either – Michael Kors has several watches that are perfect for him to unwrap on Christmas morning! Michael Kors jewelry begins at $65 and watches at $195

Local artisans create Canoe Jewelry in Blue Ridge, Georgia by using raw materials like genuine leather and authentic stones. The jewelry line is enthused by nature and you can find earth tones throughout every piece. It has also been featured in People Magazine and Sports Illustrated. You can get a set of bangles for under $40, making this the perfect thing to add to her stocking.

Freida Rothman

This Brooklyn based designer knows that jewelry industry inside and out. Freida’s family has been in the trade for several generations so it was a natural fit for her to create her own line. Sterling silver overlaid in 14 karat yellow gold and black rhodium with a matte finish gives each piece an indefinable characteristic. With prices ranging from $90-$875 there’s something for everybody in Freida Rothman.

While this is only a preview of what all you can discover at Meigs, I hope this will give you lots of wonderful ideas to make this Christmas one to remember. Happy Bow Season!

Five Things to Know BEFORE You Get Engaged

With the holidays coming up, it’s the season for families and friends to gather together. With so many loved ones together, it also makes it the perfect time to get engaged! It’s such an exciting moment and while your love is the main focus, you can’t help but want your ring to also steal the show!

I’m a part of hundreds of couples’ engagements every year with the help of Meigs Jewelry. And I’m also a part of all too many engagement ring blunders that I think are highly preventable. Through my years of engagement ring expertise, I’ve compiled a list of five things I want you to know before you get engaged!

You can’t try on your Pinterest board

Have you ever seen a dress in the store that you absolutely love so much that you dash to the register and buy it without even trying it on? I mean, why would you? It’s beautiful and gorgeous and the color is to die for!! Then you get home… and it looks like a potato sack hanging on you… And you go back to the store in a retail walk of shame to return the dress that deceivingly did you wrong. If only you had tried it on! Pinterest is a great resource to do some pre-shopping for a ring. There are literally infinite options that you can spend hours sifting through. But while options are limitless, there are limits to what Pinterest can do. You can’t physically try on the things that you pin… So come in and try them on, let us size your finger, and make a wish list of your absolute favorite rings.

Meigs Jewelry engaged board

More than One Day to Make your Dream Ring

There are many instances where the engagement ring of your dreams can walk out the door with your soon-to-be fiancé. But there are also just as many instances where the ring may take more time to create! All rings in the showroom are in a “stock size”. Majority of designers’ stock size is a 6.5. If your finger size is any more than one size smaller or larger, we recommend that we let the designers make the ring to specially fit your finger. Sizing over one size typically jeopardizes the integrity of any accent or side stones on the ring. There are also many times that you want a customized touch to your ring. Maybe it needs to be rose gold, be made to fit a certain size diamond, or something made completely custom. These things take time, so be sure to take that into consideration. The average time frame for these types of things is four to six weeks. I can promise you it will be worth the wait!

There’s more than 4 Cs

If you have done any research on diamonds, I can guarantee you’ve come across the “4 Cs” – cut, carat, color, and clarity. But there are two more very important Cs that don’t get talk about too often. There’s another cut that you need to know about. This is the cut regarding how a jeweler cuts a rough diamond into the diamond that you see in a ring. If it is cut too tall or too shallow, the light can’t reflect back out and give you a sparkly diamond. If a diamond is cut correctly you will be blown away by the brilliance of the stone. The last C that you may have heard about, but not fully understand are Certificates. Many diamonds are certified by different entities stating what the color and clarity are, as well as other diamond grading factors. But did you know that legally a diamond’s certificate can be incorrect by up to two grades? Our most trusted diamond grader is the GIA, Gemological Institute of America. They are known for being spot on and giving honest certificates. Our owner, Todd Mutzig, is certified by the GIA and makes sure all diamonds grades match accordingly to their diamond!

Where is your jeweler?

While every jewelry store has jewelry, not every store has a jeweler! Meigs Jewelry is lucky enough to have two in-store jewelers. So what happens if you need your ring repaired and the store doesn’t have a jeweler on site? Well, the store is in partnership with an outside jeweler that picks the repairs up weekly or so. They are then taken to an outside location where thousands of other repairs form multiple stores are also taken. That’s sounds like a lot of opportunities for jewelry to be lost, stolen, or mixed up to me! Did I mention that they turn around time is several weeks, sometimes months… We guarantee all of our repairs in one week!

Something old, something new, something…?

Borrowed! And we can even make it something blue if you desire! With every engagement ring purchased at Meigs Jewelry you become eligible to be a part of our Something Borrowed program. For your wedding day, we invite you to choose a piece of jewelry valued up to $10,000 to make your big day extra special. Now, isn’t that something to get excited about?! It’s one of the biggest perks of getting your ring at Meigs Jewelry
